Making a list of Trinidad and Tobago “geniuses”.

Genius (plural geniuses[1][2]) is something or someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight. (source: Wikipedia)

I’m going to take a stab at starting a list of geniuses that we have produced in Trinidad and Tobago, as we approach our 50th Anniversary as an independent country.   I call a genius someone who has left an indelible mark in their field, a one of a kind talent who will always be the gold standard.

I would love to hear some of yours, including  areas like medicine, education, social work, entrepreneurship and any other areas that have produced a genius.  Any candidates from Tobago?  Dwight Yorke?  ANR Robinson?

Here goes with my possibles:

  1. Lloyd Best
  2. Kitchener
  3. Sparrow
  4. Dr Eric Williams
  5. Brian Lara
  6. Clive Bradley
  7. Dr Anthony N. Sabga
  8. Hasely Crawford
  9. Beryl Mcburnie
  10. V S Naipaul
  11. C L R James
  12. Peter Minshall
  13. Samuel Selvon
  14. Sir Learie Constantine
  15. Jean Michel Cazabon
How many have we produced so far?

Lara, Yorke, Machel Montano, Russell Latapy, David Rudder, Peter Minshall, of late Brian McFarlane, Jean Pierre, Shaka Hislop, Dennis Lawrence (moreso for his goal vs Bahrain and his current position as the first full time coach from the Caribbean in the Premiership), Jack Warner (had to have had something in him to make such rise, hate him or like him), Ato Boldon (best ever sprinter, i think he bypasses HC despite his single gold medal in ’76)
