Paying for passion

How come some people are passionate and others are just prepared to tick the boxes. And sometimes not even that. I find the most passionate people are found in the arts and sport. Like the community organiser who goes around begging business people to donate towards uniforms for their football team, arranges with the County Council to cut the grass and shows up every afternoon to coach. And all for no personal gain. In fact, it often comes at a financial cost to them, apart from their time commitment.

Or the steel-band manager that drops his players home at 4:00am in the morning. Why do they take all that abuse? Struggling to bring the band to Panorama and on the road while abandoning their Family for 2 months before Carnival.

As a society we have to find a way to compensate these passionate people. They are propping up communities and subsidising society. We can pay them and their projects or we can pay Securicor or G4 or Judges or Lawyers or Doctors or Undertakers.

How do we find these heroes and pay them for their performance and passion?
