The spider and the fly.

Why did “The Greens” have such a short life cycle. It seems like only yesterday, it was born. Mayflies have the shortest lifespan on Earth. Their life lasting only for 24 hours. Why did the “The Greens” last as long as a mayfly? The short answer is: – Pan Trinbago seemed obsessed with maximizing $ales revenue and not with serving customers.

I imagine that someone in a Panorama planning meeting said something like this: The Panorama Semi’s is the one time that people come to pan, so we have to milk that cow. But to milk a cow and continuously get great milk, you have to feed it good grass, among other things. They milked the cow with high prices, over crowding, poor management and not delivering on their advertised promises. (to name just a few of their self-inflicted wounds or SIW’s)

But the biggest SIW was that “the Greens” sub-brand, at its core, did nothing to enhance the mothership brand called Pan. The party in the Trini posse stand was always going to be the cricket.

People are often lured by the sweetness of short term sales to the detriment of their brand’s long term performance. It is ironical that within the short period of life of mayflies, they form groups and dance together on all available surfaces. Sounds familiar.

RIP Raf Robertson.
