10 ways to succeed in 2013

  1. Don’t listen to people who say that you don’t have the talent, or there’s too much competition, or simply that you won’t succeed.  Believe in yourself.  (Thanks Jeff Haden)
  2. Start.  Just start.  (yes you with that all female courier service you’ve been thinking about)
  3. Find a partner or a mentor to help you through the tough times (sometimes all you need is a good wife  – Thanks Rebecca!)
  4. Be super frugal.  Cash is king.  Don’t spend a bad cent
  5. Hire slow.  Fire quickly.  If the fit is not there, move on quickly.  That’s better for both parties
  6. Learn the art of networking.  It will be your best tool for attracting customers
  7. Read “Book Yourself Solid” by Michael Port
  8. Make your cow purple so it stands out.  Differentiate your product or service in a material way
  9. Be prepared for 16 hour workdays and no weekends
  10. Make sure a strong person is in charge of keeping count of the cash
