10 things we Marketing people should stop doing.

  1. Making decisions without insights
  2. Advertising a lousy product or service
  3. Selling only the steak (we must also sell the sizzle)
  4. Going to war with our sales team
  5. Pricing disproportionate to our brand’s perceived value (too high or too low!)
  6. Spending so much time in the office at a computer. (Marketing is not a desk job)
  7. Over analysing and not biting the bullet instead
  8. Treating our ad agency as an external supplier where no results are shared rather than an extension of our marketing team who are in the loop on how we are performing
  9. Assuming that our market’s behaviour coincides with ours and our family’s
  10. Walking around like we are God’s gift to the earth
  11. Doing as if the whole of Trinidad and Tobago is the same as Port of Spain and West of the Sea Lots Lighthouse (one more for Trini town-centric marketers)

Dennis, very good and one I always tell people is that marketing is not a front office job it’s something the whole organisation must commit to otherwise the message is a lie.

We actually feel sorry for people who make statements such as they do not go past the light house. Imagine the box they live in and lack of curiosity to truly see the length and breath of the beauty of this country and it’s people. So happy to see you mention that;-)
